About Us

The purpose of the Upper Cumberland Special Education Cooperative is to provide services to member districts in support of their efforts to implement the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004) in order to maximize educational outcomes for individuals with disabilities.

The staff of our Cooperative will meet this purpose by:

  1. Providing information and training to implement IDEA 2004 including:

    A. Effective instructional services to teach reading, mathematics and other core academic subjects to support independence, successful transition and productivity among children with disabilities;

    B. Effective practices to help children learn how to manage their own behavior; and

    C. Effective due process practices to maintain compliance with IDEA 2004 and the Kentucky Administrative Regulations governing special education.

  2. Implementing statewide, regional and local initiatives and indentifying activities from member districts' Consolidated Planning Needs Assessments to meet program priorities by:

    A. Supporting districts in enabling students with disabilities to access instruction in the general curriculum utilizing the Core Content for Assessment and the Program of Studies for Kentucky Schools; and

    B. Providing professional development, training opportunities, consultation and technical assistance to member districts.
